Field Operations

Field Operations

How-To

Field Operations are the day-to-day activities you log against a field for the season: planting, spraying, fertilizing, harvest, etc.

  1. From a Field, click Add New in the Field Operations section.

  2. Choose the operation type, date, and details relevant to it. When you're logging a Seed or Harvest operation, the Add Operation screen also shows a running acreage summary so you can see how your logged operations compare to the field's total (or seeded) acres for the year.

  3. Save.

Edit or delete an existing Operation from the Field's Operations list. Attachments (like a spray receipt or a photo) can be added to an Operation too.

While logging a Seed operation, you can also update a Field's total acres directly from the Add Operation screen (a quick inline edit, the pencil icon next to the Seeded amount) instead of going to the Field's own Edit page. Handy if you notice the acreage is off while you're already there logging an Operation.

FAQ

Why can't I add an Operation? You need the Manage Operations permission, separate from Manage Field Details, so a staff account can be allowed to log Operations without being able to rename a field or change its acreage. That distinction also applies to the inline acreage edit on the Add Operation screen: it needs Manage Field Details, not just Manage Operations, even though it's right there on the same page.

I logged an Operation but the Field's acreage summary looks off. Double check the year selector. Operations are logged per crop year, and the acreage summary on Add Operation only totals operations logged for the year you're currently viewing.

Why can't I delete an older Operation? Only the most recent Operation logged for a Field in a given year can be deleted. To remove an older one, delete the ones logged after it first, working backward from the most recent.

Does logging a Harvest operation update my Crop Plan? No. Field Operations and the Crop Plan (under Budgets) are separate data sources. Harvest logged here doesn't automatically change your Crop Plan's budgeted yield or acres.
